On 1st November 1990, while Jackson’s mother was at church, he went to her house in order to steal some cash. Jackson’s sister, Regina Jackson, was at home with her two daughters and four nieces and nephews.
Jackson cut the phone line to the house and once inside he demanded money from his sister. He seems to have gone into a rage whereupon he stabbed his sister five times, she survived. He then stabbed and killed her two daughters and two of their nephews. At one stage his sister tried to hit him with some iron rods he had brought into the house. Jackson picked up the two year old and used her as a shield. All the dead children were under 5 years of age. He also stabbed another niece so severely that she was paraplegic until her death years later. Jackson, having already stabbed his sister, returned to her and stabbed her again in the neck, twisting the knife as he did so. She pretended to be dead until she heard him leave.
Jackson turned himself in to police and made confessions. He was sentenced to death at his trial in September 1991.
Jackson’s sister, who he tried to kill, forgave him and pleaded for clemency before Jackson’s execution. This was turned down and he was killed by lethal injection at Mississippi State Penitentiary.
