Canadian Dellen Millard was convicted of murder for the third time in a Toronto courthuse at the end of September.
Miller was convicted with Mark Smirch for killing his ex-girlfriend Laura Babcock of Toronto and a stranger, Tim Bosma of Anaster.
Miller called police to his family home on 29th November 2012. On arrival officers were met with the scene of Miller’s father. He was lying in bed and had died as a result of a gunshot wound through the eye. The bullet had come to rest in his brain. The case was declared a suicide.
It wasn’t until two years later when Miller was investigated in the case of Bosma’s death and Miller’s girlfriend’s disappearance that police reopened the suicide case.
Miller was convicted of murdering his father. Court Justice Maureen Forestell said, “I am satisfied beyond a reasonable doubt that Dellen Millard killed his father by shooting him in the eye as he slept.”
The evidence against Miller was largely circumstantial. His DNA was found on the revolver and cell site analysis of his mobile phone showed him in the vicinity of the family home when he told police he was miles away. It is suspected that Miller hoped to inherit his father’s wealth from work in the aircraft industry.
Sentencing is due to take place in mid November.
